Process
This series of selected works explores the vibrant CMYK color system as a baseline pallet. The materials I use are liquid ink, liquid acrylic paint, matt medium. and thin hand crafted papers. These paintings are made on printmaking paper and wooden panel. I use sponges, foam brushes, spreader squeegees, and wet sanding tools. Washes of ink mix together while wet forming secondary colors. Other layers of color are painted singularly and overlap in a controlled fluidity. Crafted paper define bright areas with subtle texture. Washes of ink dry on the surface, or soak below the semi translucent porous material. Works on paper employ lush printmaking papers, on which liquid inks resist and absorb. Works on wooden panel build up layers of ink and thin paper that are systematically ripped and wet sanded away. The tension between the very worked areas highlights the contrast of the more reductive areas of white.
